Laure Cuvillier grew up in Paris and moved to New York in 1992 to receive her education as a figurative painter at Hunter College. She moved to San Francisco in 1996 to pursue a degree in Printmaking at the California College of Arts and Crafts.
Her recent works investigate the Body as a doorway to communication, alienation and communion.
The Body in her work is not intended to be representative of the physical appearance of the individual. Rather, it is used to speak of the Body as a field of interaction of the Self with its environment, , with time, with other people, and with itself.
Laure Cuvillier's portfolio includes works on paper such as drawings and etchings, paintings, large-scale site-specific murals and sets for theatre. Her current focus lies in site-specific installations, using life-size two-dimensional articulated figures, as well as a large variety of media.
