In my work I tell the ironic complexity of the certainties of life and of the private state of mind. What I am convinced about in the morning, it turns into doubt at night. What looks like a certainty in the evening, the morning after turns into pure fantasy. The intensity in my work is reached throughout a fusion and an entirety of contrasts. Humor, drama, simplicity, enigma, spontaneity, ambiguity, historical references and metaphors are the main components in my work built on a base of honesty and irony. The conjunction of images and symbols like assorted parts of the human body, numbers, animals, sexual shapes, toys and gloves open to a variety of meanings. Often, more than one interpretation can exist simultaneously. The assemblages are made from a variety of organic and industrial materials in the effort of creating a seductive and powerful symphony. All this brings me back to my childhood; I play with my art and with the always present contrast between masculine and feminine looking for a game companion in the observer. I trust that a piece of art should not be an end to itself but a medium to communicate with other people; exchanging thoughts and concepts with the intention of stimulating inside the observer a chain of other thoughts. The freedom in interpreting an artwork comes from the possibility of the artwork itself to undergo a transformation. Lorenza Galeone |
